Whitby Abbey

And at the interactive visitor centre your family can view archaeological finds and spectacular audio-visual displays.

Filey Dams Nature Reserve

The last remaining freshwater marsh of any size in the area, Filey Dams is a magnet for migratory birds but is also a haven for plants, small mammals and amphibians. This quiet gem consists of large freshwater lagoons surrounded by marsh and grassland grazed with cattle.

Whitby Whale Watching

Few people realise the North Sea, and more importantly, just off Whitby, boasts such a rich variety of sea life below the surface. Every year during late summer and autumn vast shoals of herring migrate to the inshore waters off the Yorkshire coast to spawn. The herring, in turn, attracts cetaceans, sharks, birds and seals to feed.

Filey Bird Garden and Animal Park

Opened in 2008 this family-run park has been attractively designed to create a visitor attraction that appeals to people of all ages and abilities. You can meet and feed a variety of friendly animals in their spacious paddocks - from giant rabbits to woolly alpacas spotty pigs and miniature ponies.
