Summer at Colwell Bay
Make the most of the summer on the Isle of Wight by staying at Colwell Bay. The perfect place to relax during the summer months with sunny weather and great beaches, you can see why this is the place to be.
Colwell Bay is one of many picturesque beaches in West Wight, offering stunning views back across the Solent to mainland England. Totland Bay, Freshwater Bay and Compton are also nearby. These beaches have contrasting golden and dark sands, with rolling seas, which are just busy enough in the summer months, yet not overcrowded like some of the bigger beaches on the southern side of the Isle of Wight.
The nearby Needles Landmark Attraction is surely the island's most famous sight, with entertainment, fun and interaction for the whole family. Watch the fascinating art of glass blowing, or check out the best view of the headland from the chairlift which transports visitors from the top of the cliff to Alum Bay beach. Once there, find multi-coloured sand and the unique opportunity to make your own souvenirs by filling up glass shapes on the beach, so you can take home a part of the Isle of Wight.
Don’t miss the magic in the skies every Thursday from the 30th July with entertainment throughout the day at The Needles, including live music and a spectacular firework display to finish.
Throughout the summer season, enjoy a ‘Needles Breezer’ open top bus ride. Considered one of the best trips on the Isle of Wight, the tour runs from Yarmouth town through to Freshwater Bay, past the 1970 Isle of Wight Festival site and then back up to Alum Bay and The Needles Battery, with views across the iconic rocks and lighthouse.
Prefer to explore by boat? Book onto a pleasure cruise where you can circumnavigate the famous red and white lighthouse and enjoy an exhilarating high speed ride around the coastline.
Animal lovers can head to Tapnell Farm Park; here you will find a wide range of hands-on animal experiences with loads to keep kids and adult entertained. Located near Yarmouth on the West of the Island, Tapnell Farm Park is surrounded by stunning 360 degree views over the Solent, Newton Creek, and Tennyson Down. Or why not visit West Wight Alpacas and take one of their animals on a trek around the stunning West Wight?
Blackgang Chine is just around the corner. This popular theme park with rides, games and a maze will keep the whole family entertained at the UK's oldest amusement park. With their magical Monday nights, you can enjoy an enchanted summer evening of entertainment with all your favourite characters miss their Wednesday Big Night Out Fireworks. Every Wednesday throughout the summer break you can experience an evening of fun and entertainment, including street performers and a fire show, BBQ and an incredible musical firework display set off from the cliff's edge.
And for our more adventurous visitors there are facilities for surf lessons, kayaking or stand-up paddle boarding. You could explore hidden caves and Victorian forts, or take in spectacular views of the unspoilt chalk cliffs of the West Wight.
