The Sunday Times Travel Best Places to Stay in the South West 2019
"I think I’ve found the best spa view in England. The hot tub looks on to a foaming sea, flanked by hills braided with 3,500-year-old banks of earth, once tilled by Bronze Age farmers. As you are doing laps in the pool at dusk, you can watch the ocean slowly turn golden, and yachts twinkle sleepily in the sun."
"Accommodation now includes loft rooms, suites, five cottages and 12 apartments, all with sea views and a balcony or a garden. They are gorgeous, with muted sea tones, panelled walls, rolltop baths and rain showers."
"Poised above the South West Coast Path, on a clifftop just east of Salcombe, Gara Rock is a relaxed coastal retreat with luxurious rooms and suites, fabulous food and spectacular views of the south Devon shoreline."

"We spent two nights at Gara Rock - arriving to the spectacular views of the sea that are the focal point of the restaurant. The food was fabulous - totally delicious, well presented and lots of choice. Extensive wine list and great local beers and gin too... perhaps the best thing was the exceptionally friendly and professional staff who looked after us so well - there seemed to be a shared pride in what they have to offer and the Gara Rock product which really comes across."

"We visited the restaurant for a meal for two. It was lovely. Fantastic & caring staff, amazing interior. The food was amazing as well. The view from the restaurant and the sun set... Loved it all. We always travel with our dog so it was nice to know that dogs are welcome. We loved it so much we are definitely going back maybe even for holiday or weekend."

"We were privileged to stay at Gara Rock for two nights and were blown away by the location!! We were very fortunate to have hot sunny weather which meant we could make the most of the beaches, room balcony and loungers. The room was spacious, clean and we loved the decor. Although Gara Rock is not finished and being one of the first to visit, we did have to encounter some teething problems as expected, but have to say these were outweighed by the friendly staff, fantastic rooms, great food in the restaurant and views/location to die for!"

Set astride the cliffs which lie east of the Kinsgbridge estuary, Gara Rock can be accessed by road through the country lanes, or by passenger ferry from Salcombe.
When driving to Gara Rock, Google Maps and sat nav systems can sometimes choose a scenic route. For an easier route, we suggest you head to Kingsbridge, then Frogmore where you can turn right over the bridge and then follow signs/sat nav to East Portlemouth and Gara Rock.
